Image Detection Monitoring System (IDMS)

The system was designed to monitor automatically and continuously surface displacements in landslide areas. The IDMS is composed of a DSLR photo camera that can be coupled with a long range laser distance meter. To survey wide areas, the system is equipped with a sophisticated high precision mechanism to drive the camera and the laser distance meter. The system performs a multi-temporal analysis of images, processed with specific algorithms, that allows for the detection of displacements within the monitored areas.

 

 

Automated Inclinometric System (AIS)

The Automated Inclinometric System (AIS) was designed to gather precise and reliable measurement of deep-seated movements in landslide areas. The system is controlled by a PC, and composed of: a biaxial inclinometric servo accelerometer probe that has on-board the acquisition and data storage circuitry (a novelty); an electrical engine with precision encoder for driving and constant control of the probe’s positioning. Through a specific software, probe is periodically sent down the tube and recalled while pausing for measurements at predefined steps. The data is acquired and recorded by the probe’s on board circuitry and, at the end of the measurement cycle, wirelessly transmitted (again a novelty) to the central unit that carries out the processing. These very important technological improvements led to a noticeable decrease in burden, weight and energy consumption, allowing thus also for powering with solar panels. The system is also ready for remote control, with the possibility of setting alert/alarm based on displacement velocity thresholds.

3DA is a software suite designed and developed by the GMG, which produces tridimensional deformation maps by interpolating the results of point measurements in a given area of interest. 3DA supplies additional information on the intensity and direction of the surface displacement, projected on a real (photograph) and/or a realistic (digital model) representation of the area of interest. Furthermore, 3DA is designed  to recognize displacement thresholds and to act following specific operations, such as sending warning and/or alarm messages.
